KPB Comics Reviews Otherkin #3 — and It’s the Strongest Issue Yet

Reviewed by Stan West · KPB Comics

We’re incredibly proud to share that Otherkin #3 received a glowing 9/10 review from KPB Comics, written by reviewer Stan West. It’s a thoughtful, enthusiastic piece that does real justice to everything writer Marco Vitto Oddo and artist Victor Costa have poured into this series.

“If you’re not reading this series, you should start now.”

— Stan West, KPB Comics

West opens by framing Otherkin as the collision of three cult touchstones — Cronenberg’s body horror, Constantine’s supernatural intrigue, and Hellboy’s demonic action — before making the case that issue #3 is the best the series has delivered so far. That’s high praise for a book that was already turning heads.

What the Review Covers

West digs into the issue’s opening action sequence, highlighting Costa’s mastery of shadow and atmosphere — deep blues and oppressive blacks framing monsters with razor-sharp teeth and empty eyes. He specifically calls out a standout page where Costa renders the human body in vivid anatomical detail against a dark red background: intestines, lungs, movement. West calls it “beautiful and gory all at the same time.”

On the writing side, West praises Oddo’s handling of the series’ central theme: identity. Using a shapeshifter as the lead character is described as a “clever lens” for exploring how fluid and fragile our sense of self can be — and issue #3 makes that theme literal in a genuinely affecting way.

Verdict

9/10 — “the strongest issue yet”

Perhaps the biggest compliment in the review is reserved for Lorelei, the sharp-tongued librarian pulled into the conspiracy. West names her his favorite character in the issue — a testament to how much depth Oddo and Costa have built into the supporting cast alongside the central mystery.

We couldn’t be more grateful to Stan West and the team at KPB Comics for taking the time to engage with the book this deeply. Reviews like this remind us why we do this.
